Day 16 brings us an amazing interview by Allara from The Vampire Academy Store with the fabulous Arcane Vault!

The Arcane Vault seized on a great opportunity when they became the official merchandiser for the young adult book series Vampire Academy. With a team passionate about delivering great products that the fans love and that the creators are proud to align their name with, it’s no surprise that the Arcane Vault is now a household name in the Vampire Academy circle.

We managed to catch up with some of the creative minds behind the Arcane Vault and talk designing, fans, and Vampire Academy as we reveal some of the mystery behind the vault doors.

What is the story behind the name ‘Arcane Vault’?
We knew we wanted something that would have no association to LaserMach and that sounded cool. We must have gone over 300 different name options before settled on wanting to use the word Arcane. Once we were locked on that it was finding something more to add to that. After about 200 more rounds of “name that site” we all agreed that Arcane Vault was the right name for us.  Yeah, not as organic as I’m sure people would like to think but in the end we really like what we came up with. With all that said the bigger issue for us was how the site was going to look.  We knew what we wanted but due to some time constraints we couldn’t create the site we were looking for. Don’t get me wrong our site is serviceable but it doesn’t look like a site dedicated to the fan base we are courting.  Having said that look for the new Arcane Vault web site launching sometime in August.

What is your favourite part of being named the Official Merchandiser of Vampire Academy?
The fans!  We have loved all the interaction with the fans. They are so supportive of us but at the same time not afraid to tell us when they don’t like something.

Check out the rest of the interview here, The Vampire Academy Store, or check after the break for more!

Thanks to Allara and The Vampire Academy Store for an amazing interview!

Day 15

Todays 30 Days feature is from Linda at Most Important Letter! She has something very special lined up, here it goes!

Hey, guys!So this is my contribution to the 30 Days of Bloodlines event: a character interview! Yup, I’m going to be doing a group interview with the whole Vampire Academy cast just for the fun of it.
And before we get started, let me clarify: this character interview is my doing. Richelle Mead had no part of this whatsoever; I didn’t want to bother her with adding something to her busy schedule (including two book releases this month and a baby!), so I made up both the questions and the answers. Also, something that you need to keep in mind: this takes place after Last Sacrifice, so if you haven’t read the entire Vampire Academy series, you might want to keep away. Got it? All right then!

Linda: Welcome to the blog! Would you mind introducing yourselves?
Lissa: Not at all! I’m Queen Vasilisa Dragomir, one of the last two members in the Dragomir family and, well, queen of all Moroi. But you can call me Lissa.
Rose: And I’m her guardian and best friend. Rose Hathaway, at your service.
Christian: Christian Ozera. Most people know me as the guy whose parents turned Strigoi willingly. Oh, and also, nephew of the murderer of Queen Tatiana.
Lissa: Christian!
Christian: But you can call me Christian.
Dimitri: His guardian, Dimitri Belikov.
Jill: Jill. Just Jill.
Sydney: Sydney Sage, alchemist.

Linda: Where’s Adrian?

Jill: Oh. I think he had too much to drink last night –
Christian (mutters): Probably passed out drunk somewhere. (Lissa slaps his arm.) Ouch.
Jill: — but he’ll be back soon.

Day Fourteen

Here at SK.net we have made a rare discovery – a guy who reads VA and wants to talk about his feelings (… feelings about the series, that is).

We’d like to introduce you to a dear friend of ours – Ben. We managed to convince him to not only read the series, but also to blog about it every few chapters, giving us a male perspective of the series.  We are honored to bring you Ben’s debut as a feature of 30 Days to Bloodlines!

Sure, he doesn’t wear a duster.. but we have it on good authority that he does read westerns. Make that western. He read a western novel – once. Either way, he is now our new feature blogger and we’d love for you to give him a warm welcome into the SK.net family, and most importantly of all: enjoy his debut blog. :D

When I was first asked if I wanted to write this thing, I will admit that I was not exactly ecstatic about it. I am not what you would call a fan of the “teenage vampire” genre. I will admit I never read the Twilight series, not one book, although I did watch a couple of the movies out of morbid curiosity and failed to really see what the hype was about. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I do like vampires. I think they’re pretty cool. As long as they’re not “glow-in-the-light” vampires that spend most of their time trying really hard not to drink anybody’s blood. Another thing I have always maintained that vampires shouldn’t do is go to school.

So you can imagine my reaction when I was told that not only is this a “teenage vampire” series, but the first book in that series is called… Vampire Academy. The instinctive cringe I felt as I learned of that title was followed swiftly by visions of some Harry Potter-esque “school for vampires” where all the young blood-suckers learn the best way to dodge a stake or scuttle down vertical surfaces on all fours, like Gollum in that movie about those books.

In any case, I agreed to read the books and reserve my judgment until I actually knew what I’m talking about. I have read the first four chapters and, so far, I have been pleasantly surprised. While it is true the story takes place in a “school for vampires” that does kind of remind me a bit of Hogwarts, the vampires in this series are not sparkly… which is a great start.

The style of writing is very easy to follow and is kind of what I would call “light reading”, but definitely in a good way. None of the characters encountered so far have annoyed me at all, with the exception of Ms. Kirova, and I think that was probably intentional. A couple of little things seemed a bit silly to me, like Rose saying getting bitten by Lissa was “better than sex”, only to admit she is actually a virgin – it just seemed like a bit of an unnatural thing for a virgin to say somehow. The friendship between Rose and Lissa is quite believable and leaves me wanting to find out more about the connection between them. Rose seems sassy, sexy and “badass” compared to the mopey characters from the Twilight series, which was also somewhat refreshing to me.

I found the fact that the Moroi are mortal a little strange, since immortality is usually a key feature in vampire stories, although this shows some originality, so I like that. The Strigoi having to kill to become immortal gives an added element of making some sort of sacrifice, so that the issue is more complex and interesting. I am definitely interested to see what the Strigoi are actually like once they are properly introduced and I hope they are suitably nasty and sinister to counter-balance the Moroi who seem to have a lot in common with normal people, besides the whole blood-drinking and super-powers they have.

Anyway, I had better wrap this up, but in short, I’ve enjoyed what I’ve read of the book so far and I am keen to read more and finding out how everything unfolds in future chapters.

Day Thirteen

Need something else to whet your appetite while you wait for Bloodlines? How about another review from AwesomeSauce Book Club?

“I was really really nervous to read this book. I just couldn’t imagine a book narrated by Sydney. She just didn’t seem to me like a great main character. And obviously losing Rose was going to be hard. But knowing I was going to see Adrian in this book, I was going to read no matter what even if freaking spongebob was narrating it.”

ShadowKissed.com are also adding another Arcane Vault Vampire Academy Key Chain into the big prize pool.

Day Twelve

As Day Twelve comes of our epic Countdown of Bloodlines, we have an amazing guest blog from awesome self-published author Steven Montano!

Wow.  My first guest post.  I feel like back in college, when I was the only guy in a class of thirty students.  The class was “Women In Romance Fiction”.  Yeah…awkward.
(But a LOT of fun!)

My name is Steven Montano, author of the post-apocalyptic vampire fantasy series BLOOD SKIES, and I’m nervous as hell to be here! =D

Thanks a ton to Laura for asking me to guest post as part of the ShadowKissed.net for the countdown to 30 Days Of Bloodlines.  Now, while I’m not entirely in the ideal demographic for Vampire Academies as either a reader, there’s one thing that I share in common with anyone visiting this site: a love of vampires.

I’ve always been a bit jealous of vampires.  Part of it is that I’ll just never look that good.  Part of it is I don’t really want to have to suck people’s blood to live forever (and I’m not even sure if I want to live forever.)  For that reason, I tend to find myself drawn more to the bestial side of vampires: their thirst, their hunger, and their ability to completely dominate humans on every level, whether physically, psychically and emotionally.  The notion that something exists that is so very similar to humans and yet at the same time so vastly superior is one of the reasons why vampires are the primary villains in my novel series, BLOOD SKIES.

I started writing when I was about 18 years old (just before my “Goth” days, which stuck with me, alas, all of the way through college) and never really stopped, though it wasn’t until earlier this year that I decided to try my hand at self-publishing…and it’s been quite a wild ride.  After writing the original 50,000 word draft for BLOOD SKIES in about a month’s time back in 2009, I spent the next year or so in a love-hate relationship with the manuscript until finally, earlier this year, I decided to take the plunge, finish the document up (the final version is almost 80,000 words) and self-publish it.  Thus far sales have been solid (not earth-shattering, mind you, but solid), reviews have been good, and overall response has been very positive.   It’s has been and continues to be a lot of work (I’m editing Book 2, BLACK SCARS, as you read this, as well as drafting Book 3 in the series, SOUL RAZOR), but there’s no question that it’s all been worth it.

So what is BLOOD SKIES about? On an earth shattered by a magical apocalypse, the vampires of the Ebon Cities wage war against the struggling human survivors of the Southern Claw alliance, who must rely on their wits and their newfound mastery of magic to try and stay alive.  The first novel in the series (which also happens to be called, ahem, “BLOOD SKIES”) involves a young warlock named Eric Cross, a member of a Southern Claw squad that has been deployed to track down a traitor witch called Red before she hands vital human secrets to a renegade vampire.  As if that wasn’t bad enough, Cross’ sister – a witch named Snow – is assigned to his squad, and keeping her safe becomes every bit as important to Eric as fulfilling his mission.  Much chaos, magic, action and general scary stuff ensues.

So, you see, whether they’re getting into trouble at the Academy, struggling against the Strigoi, or just trying to wipe out the human race in an apocalyptic future, vampires are always there for some good bloody fun.  :[

There is also one black molnija mark key chain. Today we are adding another prize to the pool, and we will continue to add more until the end of the month.

Good luck.

Question two

Who’s arm did Rose break before Vampire Academy took place.

Day Ten

Guest Blog by Michelle Rowen – Author of amazing Romance and YA series like, Nightshade, Demon Princess and soon to shelves Vampire Academy: The Ultimate Guide. We let Michelle take the reigns for Day Ten of the Bloodlines Countdown! Enjoy!

Thanks to ShadowKissed.net for inviting me to help count down the 30 Days Of Bloodlines. I was lucky enough to have gotten to read the book a couple months ago, so I can honestly say Richelle’s fans are in for a real treat come the official release day!

I’ve been a fan of the original series since I received an ARC of the very first Vampire Academy novel from my agent — Richelle and I share an agent, so that was why I got a sneak peek. I fell in love with the world of St. Vlad’s and I devoured the forbidden romance between Rose and Dimitri with every book that followed. When Adrian arrived on the scene in Frostbite, I was immediately smitten by him as well…although, I instinctively knew nobody would come between Dimitri and Rose for long! (It was okay to want Adrian for myself, not Rose, right?)

When the opportunity presented itself that I could take my love of the VA series and put it to good use by writing Vampire Academy: The Ultimate Guide, I jumped on it. I got to reread the series, very carefully, and write the guide, including overviews of all the plots, character profiles, quizzes, and a glossary, among other fun stuff, which I really hope fans of the series enjoy when it’s released November 15th.

In my other writing, I’m the author of a whole bunch of paranormal romance novels for adults, as well as a couple for young adults. I’m very excited about my new young adult series that launches June 2012 with Harlequin Teen. DARK KISS is the first book in the Nightwatchers series, which is about a teenage girl named Samantha who has special abilities that make her particularly interesting and helpful to a team of angels and demons who are (very reluctantly!) working together to defeat the growing darkness threatening her city — a darkness which also threatens both heaven and hell. She becomes very closely involved with an angel named Bishop, who is half-insane from his fall from heaven, yet Samantha’s touch mysteriously seems to clear his mind. I am now working on the second book, titled WICKED KISS. Mystery, adventure, danger, and romance. Like those elements in your reading? I think you’ll enjoy Nightwatchers!

I hope you enjoy Bloodlines when it comes out — I thought it was awesome. If you enjoyed the VA series, then I honestly think you’ll love this. Plus, one very important word that makes Bloodlines all the better for me: ADRIAN. Yes, please!! More, more, more!!

Happy reading!

Question One

Who is the first Moroi, apart from Lissa, Christian and Adrian, to be mentioned in Blood Promise by name?

Day five

Another day, another competition!

I have noticed during the 'Know-It-All' contest held by Shadowkissed.com a while ago, that most VA fans had problems getting their hands on 'Kisses From Hell' by Richelle Mead and a few other authors. What is 'Kisses From Hell'? It's basically a collection of short stories from a few of the biggest paranormal romance authors out there right now.

The Vampire Academy related part is a short story of how Lissa's parents met and fell in love. The story is irresistible and I'm sure you'll all love it.

Like most of you, I was unable to get a hard copy or paperback of this novel, so I bought the eBook in a PDF format instead. It doesn't matter if you don't have an eReader, cause you can read it just as easily on your computer! There are tons of programmes out there that can read almost any eBook format and they are all for free.

So I have decided to give away a copy of my 'Kisses From Hell' for 3 lucky winners! That's right, you don't need glasses! 'Bloodlines' is coming up soon and all VA fans need to celebrate.

To win, all you have to do is fill out the form below and answer the following question, there are also bonus ways to earn extra entries!

“What’s your favorite Vampire Academy book and why?”

Head over to Hummingbird’s Delight to Enter!

The contest will end on August 13,  2011 and the winners will be announced via email on the following day. The competition is open for all international readers and you will receive the eBook in an email if you win!

Day Four

Today we are launching another competition.

Using any medium (photography, pencil, paint, graphics programs) create a piece of fan art that represents what Vampire Academy and Bloodlines means to you.

We are not necessarily looking for the most amazing artists, we want to find those who can communicate their feelings through images.

To enter submit your piece of fan art to competitions@shadowkissed.com by 20/08/11. The winning entry will be announced on our Facebook page on 23/08/11 and the artist will receive a Vampire Academy key chain.

In the meantime, for those of you who aren’t creatively inclined, check out this Bloodlines review courtesy of Good Books And Good Wine.

Day 3

Win Bloodlines! Thanks to

That’s right, you would Win an advanced copy of Bloodlines by Richelle Mead – all thanks to Janet Cadsawan! Janet is very kind enough to give us her own copy of the Bloodlines ARC for all of you to win!

Day two

Welcome to day two of our thirty days of Bloodlines! Well, let’s be straight… It’s actually 31, or 32 if you count August 23rd… But they don’t quite have the same ring to them.

Today is a BIG reader participation day, because we need your help!

Of course we have our own questions to ask, but we want to know what you want to know, just so that we are covering all the bases!
